Emotional Exploration: Wabbit

Continuing a series of posts looking at exploring emotions, or more precisely our emotional vocabulary. As I have said before, this is because all too often I encounter people who are sitting with some big emotions but are unable to articulate exactly how they are feeling because they do not have the words to do so. This ongoing series will take a different emotional word, break down what it means in its own right, and situations in which we might feel it and use it.

This month I thought I would take a slightly more light-hearted approach, and return to my roots a little, with the Scots word Wabbit. The word wabbit is a Scots word meaning exhausted from long endured effort. This is very much describing the kind of exhaustion you feel after a long hard week at work, a particularly big workout, or coming out the other side of a cold / flu. It is the idea that you have been through something and whilst you are now at the end of that something, it has left you feeling wabbit. Think of those Saturday mornings when you had grand plans for the weekend, got a good rest on Friday but just woke up feeling weak, and tired out from the week gone, that is wabbit. Perhaps you have been very ill with the flu, the symptoms have now gone, and you are getting out and doing activities again, but you are just not quite back to your 100%, you are feeling feeble, knackered, and a little weak from the flu experience, you might even say you are feeling wabbit.

It's been nice to be able to introduce a Scots word to this series for many reasons, but perhaps my favourite reason is that Scots words are just so much fun to say. You can expect more in the future. I do hope that you are all feeling good, and if you are feeling wabbit, be kind to yourself.
